The 2016 Skywalker Rose of Pinot Noir has a beautiful, bright ruby color as vibrant as spring itself. Engaging aromas of fresh red berries and mountain flowers are typical of Skywalker and this vintage is no exception.
On the palate, the wine has an immediate impression of red fruits, sliced strawberries, and fresh cut flowers. Moderate in alcohol at 13.5%, the finish is lengthy and persistent yet yields to the bright, natural acidity of mountain Pinot Noir.
The 2014 Skywalker Chardonnay excites with its beautiful, light straw color and effusive aromas of ripe green apples, white pears and warm toast. The palate has firm acidity from Marin’s cool summers which supports the weighty and layered texture from the barrel fermentation. Allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation to naturally reduce acidity, this adds additional roundness and excitement to the mid-palate and finish.
2014 was one of the warmest and driest years on record. The effects of four years of drought along with warm days and cooler evenings significantly reduced yield. However, the quality of the fruit was exceptional. With no rain, the harvest was extended to early October, allowing the seed to fully mature and flavors to develop.
The 2013 Skywalker Pinot Noir starts with a saturated, deep ruby color suggesting a ripe vintage for Marin County. The aromas are classic Skywalker: dried rose petals, potpourri, cranberry and allspice, but with an undertone of crushed earth and mineral. The palate expands in waves, starting focused and taut, expanding with time into flavors of spice, wild berry, dried flowers and red fruits. The finish is long and light on the palate, a telltale sign of an age worthy Pinot Noir.
The harvest season of 2013 will be remembered for its gentle temperament of bountiful blue skies and mild temperatures. We now know that we were experiencing the second year of extremely dry conditions in Northern California. Considered a classic vintage with respect to all varieties on the estate, the Pinot Noir reached ideal ripeness without threat of rain or damaging conditions, harvesting in late September.
Skywalker Vineyards Pinot Noir is defined by two very separate locations, topographies and soil types. The lower block is located 235 feet above the valley floor on a ridge top facing south and westerly with slopes approaching thirty percent. The warmer of the two sites, it is critically important for Skywalker Vineyards Pinot Noir in very cool seasons (2010, 2011, 2012). The wines made from these grapes are powerful — additional ripeness adds texture to the base of the wine.
Stunning ruby and violet color, speaks to full maturity and a great site. Aromatics are extremely generous in 2012, warm spice, dark fruits of cherry and raspberry, and an attack of supremely dense and sweet fruits followed by a hedonistic, saturated finish that is both lasting and delicate. Cellared in pristine conditions, the 2012 Skywalker Pinot Noir will last a decade or more.
