Its name comes from the Latin for “original” or “ancient,” reflecting a wine rooted in central Italy’s long winemaking history. The blend evolves with each vintage, allowing lesser-known regional grapes to express the character of the growing season and landscape. Ciliegiolo is often found in Chianti blends and takes its name from the Italian word for “cherry.” Reimagined on the slopes of Umbria, this variety is being championed as a serious contender and a new favorite on our palates. Ciliegiolo brings vibrant red fruit and energy, joined by layers of raspberry, hibiscus, sundried tomato, violet, dill, Vietnamese cinnamon, and red licorice.
